DBT Skills Training
What is DBT?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy - DBT - is a cognitive behavioral therapy approach that offers strategies and exercises to help people cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their lives and their relationships.
DBT offers an evidence-based program for individuals who feel overwhelmed, highly anxious or unable to cope with their lives. Such individuals may already have developed other, dysfunctional coping mechanisms which are putting them or others at risk.
Especially during the adolescent years, the stress of growing up, dealing with school and academic pressures and navigating the social arena can put our teens in a tailspin - as well as the parents! DBT skills can help a person to learn how to regulate his or her emotions and act more effectively, improving the ability to achieve goals and improve relationships.
DBT skills are often taught in Skills Groups, and while I no longer offer these kinds of group sessions, I incorporate DBT skills training into regular therapy sessions.
Mindfulness is a key element in DBT Therapy and is core to my work with all clients.•
